method, way 与 means 的区别

1. 从意思上看：三者均可表示“方式”、“方法”，若不细分，有时可互换。如：

Do you think there’s possibly a means [method, way] of solving the difficulty? 你认为有可能找到解决这个难点的办法吗?

但严格说来，三者仍有区别：means 侧重做事的手段，method 侧重指做事方法的科学性或系统性，而 way 则属普通用词，可指任何形式的处理问题的方式或方法，且本身并不暗示方法的好坏优劣。如：

The end justifies the means. 只要目的正当，可以不择手段。

He invented a new method of teaching English. 他发明了一种新的英语教学法。

The way in which most students study is surprising. 大部分学生的学习方法是令人吃惊的。

2. 从用法与搭配上看：

表示用某种方法，means 和 method 通常都搭配介词 by，而 way 则搭配介词 in。如：

The money wasn’t earned by honest means. 这钱来路不正。

The examination is conducted by the oral method. 考试以口试的方式进行。

only in this way can you do it well. 你只有用这种办法才能把它做好。

表示做某事的方法，way 后可接不定式或 of doing sth，而 means 和 method 后虽然也可接不定式，但均不如用 of doing sth 普通。如：

This is the best way to learn [study] English. 这是学习英语的最好方法。

There’s no means of finding out what happened. 无法弄清发生了什么事情。

It’s not the proper method of brushing teeth. 那不是刷牙的正确方法。

注：若后接名词，通常用 means of 或 method of，很少用 way of。如：

我已用了一切可能联系的办法。

正：I’ve tried all possible means ofcommunication.

误：I’ve tried all possible ways of communication.

3. way 和 method 均为单数，其复数分别是 ways 和 methods，而 means 既是单数也是复数。如：

All means have been tried. 所有的办法都试过了。

Every meanshas been tried. 所有的办法都试过了。
