as far as的本义用法与引申义用法

一、用于本义

其意为“与……一样远”“远至……”“一直到……”。如：

Continue as far as the crossroads. 继续走，走到十字路口。

We walked as far as the edge of the forest. 我们一直走到了树林的边上。

I’ve read as far as the third chapter. 我已读到第3章了。

在否定句中也可用 so far as。如：

We didn’t go as [so] far as the others. 我们走得不如其他人远。

二、用于引申义

用于引申义时，有时也可用 so far as，其主要用法如下：

(1) 表示“就……的限度”“到……的程度”。如：

It’s ready as far as I know. 就我所知已经准备好了。

A：Have you met my brother? 你见过我弟弟吗?

B：Not as far as I remember. 我不记得见过他。

(2) 表示“尽……所能”。如：

I will help you as far as I can. 我将竭尽全力来帮助你。

His parents supported him as far as they could. 他父母竭尽全力抚养他。

(3) 表示进展“达到某一点为止”。如：

We’ve got as far as collecting our data but we haven’t analysed it yet. 我们已收集了资料，但尚未分析。

三、注意以下惯用搭配

(1) as [so] far as it goes 达到一定程度（通常并未如愿）

Your plan is a good one as far as it goes, but there are several points you’ve forgotten to consider. 你的计划目前看来还算不错，但有几点你忘了考虑进去。

(2) as far as…is concerned 就……而论，就……而言。如：

She’s the equal of her brother as far as intelligence is concerned. 论智力，她和她哥哥不相上下。

The car is fine as far as the engine is concerned but the bodywork needs a lot of attention. 这辆汽车发动机还不错，但车身需要大修。

有时可省略as far as…后面的is concerned，但不算普通。如：

As far as the new development plan, I think we ought to be very careful. 关于新的发展计划，我想我们应当十分谨慎。

(3) as far as the eye can see 就视力所能及

The land west of the mountains stretched as far as the eye could see. 群山以西的地域一望无际。
