一、afoot的用法

在准备中；在进行中(being prepared or progressing)

(1) 作表语。例如：Across the Taiwan Strait a second set of historically profound changes is afoot. 海峡对面的中国大陆正在发生着第二轮影响深刻的巨变。

(2) 作后置定语。例如：

If there is any mischief afoot, he is sure to be in at it. 要有什么调皮捣蛋的事，肯定有他的份。

There is a plan afootto pull down the old building so as to widen the street.现正计划拆除这幢旧大楼以拓宽马路。

(3) 作宾语补足语。例如：

I set a project afoot. 我开始执行计划。

二、afoot的搭配

(1) be well afoot 在顺利进行中。例如：

The work is well afoot. 工作在顺利进行中。

(2) get afoot 开始, 实施。例如：

Preparation for dinner is gettingafoot in the kitchen. 厨房正在准备饭菜。

(3) set afoot 着手，使……开始执行。例如：

His nature will be changed by the changes he has already set afoot. 他的本性将随着他已经开始的变化而变化。
