表对比或转折的并列连词

英语中表示意思转折或对比的并列连词主要有but和yet两个。

1. 并列连词but 的用法

并列连词 but 意为“但”“但是”“却”。如：

He looked around but could see nobody. 他向四周望望，却没看见什么人。

I know of the town but I’ve never been there. 我知道有这座城市，但从未去过。

I like mushrooms but unfortunately they don’t agree with me. 我喜欢吃蘑菇, 可惜吃了难受。

I invited my five sisters but not all (of them) can come. 我邀请了我的五个姐妹, 但(她们)却不能都来。

I like cats but unfortunately I’m allergic to them. 我很喜欢猫, 但可惜我对猫过敏。

I agree but I can’t answer for my colleagues. 我同意, 但是我不能代表我的同事们。

He promised to be here at four o’clock but didn’t appear until six. 他答应四点钟来, 可是六点钟才到。

I appreciate your problem, but I don’t think I can help you. 我理解你的困难, 但却爱莫能助。

This beach is good for swimming but bad for surfing. 这片海滩宜於游泳而不适合作冲浪运动。

2. 并列连词yet 的用法

并列连词 yet 也表示“但是”“却”，与并列连词but 用法相似，有时可换。如：

It is strange yet true. 这很奇怪，却是真实的。

He was poor, yet happy. 他很穷，可是很快乐。

I have failed, yet I shall try again. 我失败了，但我还要尝试。

He said he was our friend, yet he wouldn’t help us. 他说他是我们的朋友，但却不肯帮助我们。
